In April 2021, a young woman was killed with about thirty stab wounds in April in a residential building in Älta in Stockholm.

The victim, 20-year-old Siri, was found dead on the floor in the bedroom. The barely four-week-old son slept on the edge of the bed.

“Siri was a beloved daughter, sister and friend. Now she is a child without her mother”, the family writes to Aftonbladet.

Nacka District Court sentenced op on Tuesday Siri's cohabitant Ruben Appelblom, 24, for the murder. The punishment was life imprisonment.

– With regard to the length of the prison sentence, the district court has taken into account that there are several circumstances that make the act particularly ruthless. The woman was killed in her home with a large number of stab wounds and on the bed next to her lay the couple's baby. She has died of hemorrhage and it can be assumed that she experienced a great deal of death anxiety. The crime is so serious that it is justified with a life sentence, says Chief Councilor Olof Wetterqvist in a comment.

The district court finds that it has been investigated that it was Appelblom, who has previously played football at a professional level, who handed out the stabbing against Siri.

Among other things, the extent and location of the injuries meant that it could be ruled out that the woman had injured herself. Ruben Appelblom objected during the trial that he had had a memory gap during the course of events and therefore would not be responsible for the act. However, the district court considers that there are circumstances in the case that argue against this being the case. For example, in the emergency call to 112, the 24-year-old described that Siri had injured himself and that he had had to tear the knife out of her hands. The conclusion is that he was aware of his actions and intended to kill his partner.

The district court had in December 2021 decided that Ruben Appelblom would undergo a forensic psychiatric examination to find out if he suffered from a serious mental illness. interference. The investigation showed that this was not the case and it was therefore not relevant to determine the sanction for forensic psychiatric care.
