– Municipalities and electric scooter companies need to take greater responsibility for sorting out the situation with carelessly parked electric scooters in some of our cities. The government is now giving the municipalities another tool to create order and order through the introduction of a parking ban on streets and cycle paths, says Minister of Infrastructure Tomas Eneroth (S) in a statement.

A parking space can be, for example, a bicycle rack or a specially designated place for electric scooters.

The ban is judged to make it easier for municipalities to determine which electric scooter is incorrectly parked and can therefore be moved out of the way or transported away to a municipal collection point. It is the electric scooter companies that will pay the cost of the move. Municipalities also have the opportunity to announce exemptions from the ban.

According to the government, the proposal will be considered to give municipalities the opportunity to put increased pressure on electric scooter companies so that they can implement changes themselves.

The memorandum is now sent to municipalities and stakeholders. The ban is proposed to enter into force on 1 August 2022.
