EU. Sweden's former Foreign Minister Alice Bah Kuhnke (MP) suffered a crushing defeat when the European Parliament today voted for a new Speaker.

Former European Parliament Speaker David Sassoli died suddenly a week ago.

One of the candidates to succeed him was Sweden's former Minister of Culture Alice Bah Kuhnke (MP), who represents it the Green Party in Parliament.

In her nomination in the House earlier today, Alice Bah Kuhnke placed great emphasis on her ethnic background and promised to fight for so-called diversity.

She claimed to have been hunted by Nazis since she was five years old, because of her skin color.

– The threats never ceased, but my fear turned to anger, and my anger turned to political action. I am European, I am elected by the people, I am a Member of this House, and I stand before you as the Green/EFA candidate for the presidency of this Parliament, said Alice Bah Kuhnke.

The 50- year-old MP profile then turned his anger on the immigration-critical parties in the European Parliament.

– To those of you who say that I do not belong here: You are wrong. The majority in this House which is for democracy will never allow you to define who belongs in this Parliament or in our European family, she thundered.

Alice Bah Kuhnke then explained to Members that it was not enough to just believe in “diversity” without having to act for diversity in practice.

– I will work tirelessly for a European Parliament where diversity is an asset, not a disadvantage, she said.

But when it came time for a vote, the MP profile lost heavily against Roberta Metsola of the bourgeois European People's Party (EPP). Alice Bah Kuhnke received 101 votes, compared to 458 for Metsola.

Roberta Metsola has a “problematic” attitude to abortion, says Alice Bah Kuhnke after the presidential election.

– She is a incredibly experienced and talented person, but I think it is problematic that we have a president who does not obviously stand up for women's right to make decisions about their own bodies, says Bah Kuhnke to TT.
