Sweden has thus donated a total of over 9 million doses and contributed more than SEK 2 billion to global vaccine efforts against covid-19.
– Global access to vaccine against covid-19 is a of the most important measures to end the pandemic. Sweden plays a leading role here, and I am glad that we can continue the vital work with another vaccine donation to low- and middle-income countries via Covax, says Minister for Development Aid Matilda Ernkrans in a statement.
Today, more than half of the world population has received at least one vaccine dose against covid-19. In total, over nine billion doses have been given. However, access to vaccines is unevenly distributed and in low-income countries only just under 9 per cent of the population has received at least one dose of vaccine.
Sweden is one of the countries in the world that contributes most to the global vaccine supply, in terms of population.
