Hyundai Motorsport is entering a new era of World Rally with its Hyundai i20 N Rally1 and a lineup of four crews.
Two-time constructors' world champion in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), Hyundai & egrave; ready for the new hybrid regulations of Rally1, which will enter & agrave; effective from the Monte-Carlo Rally (scheduled for January 20-23).
The new car is based on the road-going Hyundai i20 N, with the WRC version called Hyundai i20 N Rally1 that will combine; a traditional 1.6-liter internal combustion engine with a common unit & agrave; plug-in hybrid.
Hyundai Motorsport president Scott Noh stated: “ We are thrilled to be part of this new hybrid era of WRC and to demonstrate Hyundai's firm commitment to international motorsport. The WRC is about making the most technically advanced cars compete. advanced, guided and navigated by the best crews, in the most severe tests; challenges of the world: the 2022 season is; bound to take things to the next level. Furthermore, from a business point of view, & egrave; important for Hyundai to be tied to a technology relevant to the road; the transition to hybrid in the WRC brings together the activities; of the brand in motorsport and road cars. At the wheel of the Hyundai i20 N/strong>there will be the crews of Thierry Neuville/Martijn Wydaeghe and Ott T & auml; nak/Martin J & auml; rveoja. A third Hyundai i20 N Rally1 will be; shared throughout the season by Swedish rising star Oliver Solberg and Dani Sordo.
