Abroad. The omicron variant of the coronavirus is so contagious that more than half of Europe's population can be expected to be infected within six to eight weeks, according to the WHO.

Europe received another 7 million newly reported cases of covid-19 in the first week of 2022.
That is more than a doubling in just two weeks, said WHO's European Director Hans Kluge at a press conference.
– At this rate, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation predicts that more than 50 percent of the population in the region will be infected with omicron in the next 6-8 weeks, Kluge said according to Euronews.
