IONITY's original goal was to make 400 stations available for fast charging in Europe by the end of 2020 . This milestone is; it has now been reached but one year late. Looking at the site that keeps track of the opening of the new stations, it turns out that the number 400 is; was made operational a few days ago. Currently there are 402 (according to Status Tracker for IONITY HPC) the operational stations on the European territory. 1,603 columns have been installed, a number far from the initial target of 2,600.

Among the pandemic that stopped the expansion of the network of the joint venture formed by many major car manufacturers such as Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes and Hyundai, and a number of further problems, the original milestone & egrave; has only been reached now.

In addition to the delays, as we know, over time a series of criticisms have also been added on the functioning of the network. One of the most sensational came from Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess. In any case, IONITY today can & ograve; rely on one of the fastest charging networks large in Europe. IONITY now aims to improve the quality & agrave; of the service and above all to further expand the network to make it even more; over the next few years.

NEW EXPANSION PLAN

Towards the end of November 2021, IONITY announced its new expansion plan. Thanks to a new investment of 700 million euros, the aim is to reach 7,000 charging points of 350 kW by 2025 . This means that the number of stations will increase. from about 400 to over 1,000 . In addition, the new stations will have 6 to 12 charging points and will also be built in large cities & agrave; and along the main road arteries (not only closer to or within motorways).

The old stations , on the other hand, will be expanded to improve the charging experience of electric users. It will be therefore it is very interesting to follow the evolution of this new expansion plan and understand if the times will be respected. Make it much more capillary charging networks & egrave; very important to support the spread of electric cars . This is a topic we already have; spoken many times. As we know, by the car manufacturers & egrave; been more times raised an alarm on the lack of an ambitious European plan to support the spread of infrastructures for electric cars, especially in anticipation of the stop to the marketing of endothermic cars which could take place in 2035 as proposed by the European Commission.
