The new restrictions mean, among other things, that restaurants and restaurants must close at 11 pm, with a limit of a maximum of 8 people per party.
Adults are also encouraged to limit the number of close contacts indoors by to refrain from larger dinners, parties and similar social contexts.
But when Magdalena Andersson presented the new measures at a press conference on Monday, it was not just the spread of coronavirus she referred to as the reason for the restrictions.

– The spread of infection in Sweden is at historically high levels. And this is happening at the same time as there is a high frequency of respiratory infections such as influenza and RS virus, said the Prime Minister.
She continued:
– All in all, this means that the burden on healthcare right now are high. And if the health service and healthcare staff are to fulfill their tasks in the long term, we need to reduce the spread of infection.
On social media, several users are now asking themselves whether we are in a new normal situation where society should be shut down even when the common diseases such as influenza.
The Prime Minister says that not least diseases other than covid burden healthcare, which means that we now have a new normal situation where undersized healthcare must meet with restrictions and shutdowns.
