Apple stops Beats Pill+ wireless speaker, but has no successor

We mainly know Beats from the headphones and wireless earphones, but the company has also made a number of wireless speakers. The Beats Pill+ was the most recent model and was released as early as 2015. The speaker remained in the range all along, but now Apple has pulled the plug.

Beats Pill+ speaker stopped

The speaker, which was available in white, black and red, is completely wireless and easy to carry thanks to its compact size. The battery of the speaker lasts about 12 hours and you can charge it with a Lightning cable. The speaker only works with Bluetooth, so AirPlay 2 is also missing. Even before Apple or Beats announce a new version, the original has now been pulled from the shelves.

Until last week, the speaker could still be found on the Apple and Beats website, but that is no longer the case today. The exact reason is not known, but stock may have run out and the speaker is no longer made. That means that Apple no longer sells its own wireless speaker: not of its own brand, but also not of the Beats brand. The Beats Pill+ is still for sale at a few other retailers, although we don't really recommend it for that price anymore.

The only speaker in Apple's range is then still the HomePod mini. But unlike Beats's, this one isn't wireless. It is not clear whether Apple has planned a portable speaker for the future. Incidentally, Apple recently also brushed up on the Beats line-up. Apple discontinued a number of Beats products at the end of 2021, including the Powerbeats.
