At CES 2022 in Las Vegas there is space was also for eVTOLs , that is; for the well-known electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft that we have often talked about in the past. SkyDrive , a Japanese startup working in the UAM (Urban Air Mobility) sector with the aim of creating a flying taxi service , led to the fair dedicated to technology its model SD-03 which in 2020 had made its first pilot test flight on board. Yes & egrave; treaty of the first time that the company & agrave; brought its full-scale eVTOL outside of Japan.
Visitors to the fair were therefore able to get a close look at this interesting aircraft designed for short-haul flights, capable of traveling for about 5-10 minutes at a speed; maximum cruising speed of 40-50 km/h. It offers only one seat on board and therefore the prototype is not; suitable for a real commercial transport service. Precisely for this reason, SkyDrive announces that it is also working on the two-seater SD-05 model which should be ready to be proposed as a flying taxi at the World Expo in Osaka to be held; in 2025.
The company also made it known that it already had obtained from the Japanese Ministry of Transport the necessary certifications for the new model. Yes & egrave; treated as an important step towards the commercialization of its eVTOLs. Although there is no precise information on the new SD-05 model, SkyDrive does not seem to be at the same level as companies such as, for example, Volocopter which are developing much more aircraft; complexes.
The Japanese company will continue & agrave; its development work over the next few years and therefore will be; however, it is interesting to discover its progress. The Urban Air Mobility sector is particularly dynamic in recent times. More and more reality some car manufacturers such as Hyundai are also working in this direction. The goal is to build electric aircraft to simplify short-haul travel within large cities; where the traffic & egrave; particularly congested. A transport service that if it really will arrive over the next few years it will be; probably – especially at the beginning – available to a few since the costs of the flights will certainly not be contained.
