Users report problems with HomeKit camera images: old shots in Home app

In the Home app, you will find images from your HomeKit cameras on the Home tab and in the separate rooms. Before you view the live images, the Home app shows a so-called snapshot that is automatically refreshed every 10 seconds. This is a still shot from your camera, so you can see what's happening without opening the live stream. But it is precisely with these snapshots that users report problems. This problem also occurs in the Netherlands, according to a response from an iCulture reader.

Home app shows old images of HomeKit camera

Complaints have been made on various forums since the end of December about the failure to update the HomeKit camera images. The shots always state that the images of ‘Now’ are, but in fact it is a shot that is sometimes days old. It is unclear what causes the problem or whether it affects all cameras. Users of multiple models are reporting the issue, including the Logitech Circle View, the Eufy 2C Pro, and Arlo's cameras. There doesn't seem to be any difference whether the camera supports HomeKit Secure Video or only works with standard HomeKit.

However, the problem is not for everyone. For example, we experience no problems with the Eve Cam and a Eufy Pan/Tilt camera also provides recent snapshots.

So the problem only affects the snapshots in the Home app and not the live stream. As soon as you tap on the snapshot, the app always shows a live camera view. If you are experiencing this problem, just tap the still image to always view the live images.

No fix available
It's unclear whether this problem is caused by a bug in iOS or whether Apple can make a change to HomeKit's servers. There is currently no (temporary) solution, besides viewing the actual live stream. Restarting your iPhone does not have the desired effect and logging out and back in iCloud does not solve the problem either. So it's just a matter of waiting for Apple to fix the problem itself.
