On Facebook, Ulf Kristersson writes after the ceremony a tribute text to the controversial former M-leader and prime minister.

Kristersson says that he and Reinfeldt found each other as young members of parliament in the 90s . They both thought that M at that time had “stuck in a fixation on the 68-left and the Social Democrats” and “wanted to build something new”.

“And there was some uproar when we, as the only moderate members of parliament, left against the party line and voted in favor of the law on registered partnerships, the one that gave gay couples the right to marry at the time. I'm still proud of that! ” writes Ulf Kristersson.

“Sweden became a better country”
Furthermore, Ulf Kristersson states that “Fredrik was absolutely crucial for the election victory in 2006”.

“The election was a turning point. A twelve-year Social Democratic hold on power was broken. And for the Moderates, which was one of many calculated parties, it was a restoration.”

“Sweden became a better country during Fredrik's eight years as Prime Minister “, continues Ulf Kristersson.

The portrait of Fredrik Reinfeldt is painted by the artist Johan Patricny.
