In 2018 Eve released the second generation Eve Room. Compared to the first generation, this sensor has a completely new design with a built-in display, so that you can also read the temperature, humidity and overall air quality directly from the device itself. The disadvantage of this model is that it only works with Bluetooth, which limits the range. But as of now there is a brand new version, which doesn't support Thread.

New Eve Room with Thread

The new third-generation Eve Room (model number 20EBX9901) has the only improvement with the addition of Thread. Thread allows the Eve Room to establish a more stable connection to the HomeKit hub. Keep in mind that you need an Apple TV 4K 2021 or a HomePod mini for Thread. These are currently the only two hubs that have Thread built-in and allow Thread accessories like the new Eve Room to communicate with.

The Eve Room measures air quality (VOC), temperature and humidity. In the display you can read the air quality via the number of stars and the temperature and humidity are indicated in the corners. But you can also adjust the display of the screen, so that, for example, the temperature or humidity is shown in a large area. The data can also be read via the Home app or via the Eve app. The Eve app also keeps a history, so you can see the temperature history.

The Eve Room has a built-in rechargeable battery that you can charge via USB. Once charged, you can use it wirelessly for six weeks. Thanks to the connection with HomeKit, you can create automation so that, for example, a fan with a smart plug switches on as soon as the temperature falls below a certain level. Since iOS 15.1 you can also automate this via the Home app itself. The new Eve Room has a suggested retail price of €99.95. The new version is already available at Amazon Germany.

Unfortunately, Eve has not released an update for the 2018 version of the Eve Room. Some other accessories had an update that made Thread possible, but unfortunately that is not the case with the Room.
