2021 is slowly coming to an end, so it's time to carefully look ahead to 2022. Soon we will be coming to iCulture with our own big preview, but Mark Gurman gives a preview in his latest Power On newsletter. small advance on what's to come next year. Most interesting are his predictions about the Mac and Apple Watch, although no really new information has surfaced.

‘Five new Macs in 2022’

According to Gurman, Apple will release a total of five Macs. This concerns the new high-end iMac, as the successor to the current 27-inch iMac with Intel processor, the completely renewed MacBook Air, the new Mac mini, a new entry-level model for the MacBook Pro and a whole new Mac Pro with Apple Silicon chip. The new large iMac will get a redesigned design and likely a faster chip (possibly an M1 Pro and M1 Max), while the updated MacBook Air will get an M2 chip. In addition, the MacBook Air will receive the largest redesign since the introduction of this model, says Gurman.

It is not entirely clear what the new entry-level model of the MacBook Pro will look like. This is probably the successor to the current 13-inch MacBook Pro. Gurman does not say which chip will be included, but it could well be an M2 chip. More is already known about the new Mac mini. Apple was originally expected to release this model this fall, but that will now be sometime in 2022.

‘Three new Apple Watches in 2022’

About the Apple Watch, Gurman repeats his earlier prediction that it concerns three new models. First of all, Apple is working on the successor to the Apple Watch Series 7, namely the Apple Watch Series 8. He does not say what is new in this model, but according to previous rumors, there will be new health functions and possibly a new design. Furthermore, Apple is working on a new Apple Watch SE for 2022. It is also unclear what is new, but we expect an updated chip in any case.

The third model that Gurman expected is a new ‘rugged’ Apple Wait. This Apple Watch for extreme sports would get a sturdier housing and thus be more focused on athletes and people who actively go out. In our previous article we wrote why an Apple Watch sports version is a good idea.

More predictions: iPhones, AirPods and iPads
Gurman also gives a short overview for other products preview. These are the products he still expects:

  • iPhone 14 line-up, consisting of four models
  • iPhone SE 2022, with new chip and 5G
  • < li>AirPods Pro second generation, with new design and possibly sports functions

  • iPad Pro 2022 with wireless charging and modified design. Updates to iPad Air and entry-level iPad are also expected.
  • Release of Apple's mixed reality headset.
