Toyota bZ4X, the new electric SUV? ready to land in Europe

Toyota bZ4X , the first 100% electric SUV of the Japanese brand, & egrave; was officially presented in Europe where it will be & agrave; marketed during 2022 . Prices for the Italian market have not yet been disclosed. However, the automaker said it will introduce & agrave; also a completely new approach compared to the conventional purchase, with a rental program designed to cover all the main aspects related to car ownership.

The goal, in fact, is propose an all-inclusive rental agreement, which includes the vehicle, maintenance, Toyota insurance and access to related services, including one of the largest charging networks; greats of Europe. Customers can also choose to include the wallbox, along with roadside assistance and vehicle accessories.

TWO VERSIONS TO LAUNCH

Compared to what was communicated at the time of its presentation, no further relevant details have been added. This vehicle is the first from Toyota to have the eTNGA platform (Toyota New Global Architecture), developed specifically for electric vehicles, which makes the battery pack an integral part of the chassis.

For the European market two variants confirmed at launch . The first involves the presence of a single electric motor (front-wheel drive), capable of delivering 150 kW (204 HP) with a torque of 265 Nm. maximum & egrave; 160 km/h, while accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h will take 8.4 seconds. There will be; then also the model with double electric motor (both 80 kW) and four-wheel drive. In this case there will be 160 kW (217.5 HP) availablewith 336 Nm of torque. The speed maximum & egrave; always 160 km/h. To accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, it will take 7.7 seconds.

Both models will be able to count on a 71.4 kWh accumulator . Autonomy will be able to reach, depending on the model, up to 450 km . Toyota, however, does know that the data is; provisional, pending official approval. The accumulator can be recharged in direct current up to a power of 150 kW. In alternating current, on the other hand, up to 11 kW.

As we already had; got to see, Toyota wanted to focus on the technology of its batteries. The manufacturer intends to offer a ten-year or one million-kilometer warranty , with a capacity; guaranteed minimum of 70%. In order to offer this guarantee, Toyota has developed the battery with the aim of maintaining 90% capacity; residual after 10 years or 240,000 km.

The Japanese manufacturer has also worked hard to ensure maximum efficiency even at low temperatures. For this reason, the electric SUV has a heat pump.

SAFETY

Toyota has worked with Subaru to optimize the operation of the four-wheel drive. L & rsquo; XMODE allows the driver to select the mode; driving more & ugrave; suitable in all conditions, with settings for snow/mud; deep snow and mud (below 20 km/h); and Grip Control for more off-road driving challenging (below 10 km/h). At a later time, the electric SUV will be & agrave; also available with the Steer-by-Wire system with One Motion Grip . By choosing electronic steering, the vehicle will be; equipped with a new steering wheel whose shape & egrave; very similar to that of the steering wheel of the new Tesla Model S.

Toyota bZ4X will be able to & agrave; also rely on multiple ADAS systems and, in particular, on the third generation of Toyota Safety Sense which exploits data from the camera and sensors on the vehicle. We will therefore find the Pre-Collision System, the Intersection Turn Assistance, the Emergency Steering Assist, the Front Cross Traffic Alert, the Safe Exit Assist and the new Advanced Park.
