The Minister of Infrastructure and Mobility; Sustainable, Enrico Giovannini , has signed two decrees that implement the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr) in favor of a more public transport; green . Therefore, 300 million euros have been allocated for the development of the electric bus supply chain and 200 million euros for Trenitalia for the purchase of electric or hydrogen trains for the South. Let's see the main details of these innovations.

TRANSPORT PI? SUSTAINABLE

Regarding the development of the green bus supply chain , the figure allocated concerns the period 2021-2026. The 300 million euros will be used, explains the ministry, to support the implementation of about 45 industrial transformation projects for the production of non-polluting buses. More specifically, 250 million will be used for new projects. The remainder, however, for those already; outstanding.

40% of the allocated amount will be; intended for the financing of projects involving the southern regions and that is; Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily. The ministry also explains that the planned investments must be completed in time to ensure the activation of the production of ecological buses and related components by June 30, 2026.

Encouraging the development of the national production chain of non-polluting buses starts a process of industrial transformation that Italy urgently needs, also because in the coming years, thanks to the law that provides for the gradual ban on circulation of vans and buses euro 1, 2 and 3 by 2023 and the new multi-year fund for mobility; sustainable included in the bill of the Budget Law, we intend to accelerate the replacement of existing means to improve quality & agrave; air in urban areas. Thanks to the resources of the Pnrr we can make up for lost time to do s & igrave; that the industry of our country can engage the new paradigm of mobility; sustainable and able to meet the growing demand for ecological means of public transport.

ELECTRIC AND HYDROGEN TRAINS

There are also 200 million euros assigned to Trenitalia which will be used to buy electric or hydrogen trains which will replace the obsolete and polluting ones. Specifically, 60 million will be used for the purchase of 7 bimodal trains for the Reggio Calabria-Taranto intercity connections and 140 million euros for the purchase of 70 carriages for the intercity night services to and from Sicily. The new bimodal trains will have to be made available by 31 December 2024, while the new carriages by 30 June 2026.

The improvement of railway services in the southern regions is; a fundamental piece of the commitment of the Ministry for the revitalization of the South, to encourage people to make less use of the private car and use the train in medium and long distance journeys, contributing to the ecological transition. Our commitment is not; aimed only at high speed; railway. The new, latest generation zero-emission trains used on medium and long-distance routes will improve quality; also of intercity services, which have a higher cost of the ticket; content and are used for daily commuting by students and workers.
