In ten of the 16 German Länder, the police have provided information on the origin of the perpetrators, and it turns out, as expected, that immigrants are greatly overrepresented.
About 40 percent of those suspected of knife attacks lack German citizenship. Around 60 percent of the suspects have a German passport, but how many of them have an immigrant background is not clear from the statistics.
A total of 17.4 percent of the knife attacks are said to have been committed by immigrants who stayed illegally in Germany or had protection status. According to information from several states, Syria is the country where the knife-attacking immigrants most often come from, writes Junge Freiheit.
In early November, a Syrian indiscriminately stabbed a passenger with a knife on a high-speed train between Nuremberg and Regensburg. Four people were injured, some seriously. After the crime, the police found propaganda video from the Islamic State in the man's possession. Prosecutors, who had first “ruled out” a terrorist motive for the attack, changed their minds after that finding.
