Timbuktu is awarded an honorary doctorate “for his innovative writing and versatile artistry, which captures and reflects on essential aspects of humanistic thought and research”, Lund University writes on its website.

The 46-year-old rapper is known for his song Black Pigeons & amp; Withered Liljor, which is about “pounding” SD leader Jimmie Åkesson “yellow and blue” and hanging him in a flagpole and attacking Sweden Democrats with iron pipes and putting them “in a coma”. The song was launched by state Swedish Television, which described the text as “super interesting” and full of “political drive”.

Professor Barbara Törnquist-Plewa, dean of the Faculty of Humanities at the university, comments on Timbuktu's new honorary title as follows:

– Through his qualified and well-read reflections, in prose and verse, delivered with humor and lyrical virtuosity, he makes us reflect on how identities and social roles are produced and reproduced in a modern world.
