– Here you pay in 20-30 million a year, what the hell do I get for my money? said Leif Östling in a high-profile interview with SVT's “Assignment review” in 2017.

The expression “What the hell do I get for my money?” has since become a bit of a slogan among dissatisfied taxpayers.

Now Östling goes further in trying to answer the question – by starting an independent commission that will review the efficiency of the management of Swedish tax resources.

“The purpose is concrete: I want to know what we get for our tax money”, he writes on DN Debatt.

The commission will be led by Bettina Kashefi, former chief economist at the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise. A reference group to the Commission consists of people with experience from the public sector, political decision-making and entrepreneurship.

“For me, it is important that this is a project without a party-political bias. and quality in the country's publicly funded activities “, writes Leif Östling.
