SharePlay in FaceTime is a new feature since iOS 15.1. Thanks to SharePlay, you and your conversation partner can simultaneously watch a movie or listen to music or share the screen of your iPhone or iPad. Third-party apps can also work with SharePlay. It now appears that Spotify also works with SharePlay.

Spotify with SharePlay

To use Spotify with SharePlay, every participant in the FaceTime call must be a Spotify Premium subscriber . In the support document, Spotify says that in fact a group session of Spotify is started, but then via FaceTime. To launch SharePlay via Spotify, all you need to do is make a FaceTime call and open the Spotify app. A message will appear at the top of the screen stating that you can choose material to play. Once you do, the other person will be invited to join the SharePlay session.

Then the music will play synchronously on both devices. Any participant can pause the music or choose a different song as long as the session is active. To stop listening, tap the SharePlay banner at the top to stop the session.

SharePlay in Spotify is available with app version 8.6.78 or later and requires iOS 15.1 or iPadOS 15.1 or later. If you want to listen to Spotify with an Android user, you can also use the aforementioned Spotify Group Sessions.
