The Iranian worked at KSI between March 1, 2011 and September 30, 2014. The unit works, among other things, with sending out secret Swedish agents and recruiting spies.

KSI's task is to retrieve information using special methods, ie. through procedures that “it is not up to other intelligence agencies to use”, according to a government inquiry. KSI's role is to give the Armed Forces the opportunity to take advantage of intelligence gathering opportunities that other bodies cannot use because they do not have sufficient security protection for the situation.

According to DN, the unit has “free hands” and can obtain protection identities in the form of a new personal identity number and other name for their staff, which is then sent on assignments abroad. In this way, Sweden recruits sources from other countries' intelligence services.

According to DN's sources, the fact that Kia got a job at both Säpo and KSI is due to his knowledge of Persian and his knowledge of the Middle East.

The man is now suspected instead of having spied on Sweden on behalf of foreign powers. However, it is not clear which foreign power it is.
