Domestic. A women's shelter demands that a work of art at a high school in Luleå that depicts two young people be taken down. The work is sexist, the women's shelter thinks.

The artwork, which shows two manga figures, sits above an entrance to Björkskataskolan.

The women's shelter Iris in Luleå is now furious at how the two figures, a boy and a girl, are depicted.

– I think it's out of date. In today's school, children should not be brought up in these gender roles that the artist has imagined these people, says Gun Lisadotter from the women's shelter Iris to SVT Nyheter Norrbotten.

When asked how the artwork contributes to stereotypical gender roles, Gun Lisadotter answers :

– The guy is active, the girl passive. He radiates security and security standing with his arms crossed and straight up and down. She has her hand on her hip, a little swaying. Rosettes, well-groomed, passive.

– This is purely sexist, Gun Lisadotter continues.

The women's shelter writes in a letter to the municipality that “In a modern municipal school, decorations like this which opposes gender equality does not exist “.

Furthermore, the women's shelter refers to the curriculum where it states that the school must” counteract gender patterns that limit students' learning, choice and development “.

The Culture and Leisure Administration in Luleå now has to take a position on the women's shelter's letter.
