With the new Magic 2 WiFi 6 powerline adapters, Devolo has launched a successor to the Magic 2 WiFi next (test), which uses Wi-Fi 6 instead of Wi-Fi 5 for WLAN Cumulative, theoretical WLAN speed of up to 1,200 Mbit/s increased to up to 1,800 Mbit/s.

If the Magic 2 WiFi next comes up to 300 Mbit/s (2.4 GHz) + 867 Mbit/s (5 GHz), with the new WiFi-6 adapters it is up to 600 Mbit/s in the 2.4 GHz frequency band and 1,200 Mbit/s in the 5 GHz frequency band. Tape. The 2×2 MIMO configuration supports channel bandwidths of 20, 40 and 80 MHz. IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax and 802.11 k/v/r are supported as wireless standards.

New Wi-Fi 6 functions on board

With the new wireless standard, the new powerline adapters also offer the new functions of Wi-Fi 6, including QAM 1024 modulation, OFDMA, bi-directional MU-MIMO, target wake time (TWT) and BSS coloring. TWT ensures, for example, that the WLAN on end devices can switch to extended standby, for example to save power, and is automatically reactivated when communicating. “BSS Coloring”, on the other hand, reduces the waiting time for transmissions in overcrowded frequency ranges and QAM-1024 ensures that more information can be accommodated in the signal.

Mesh -WLAN functions are retained

The new models adhere to mesh functions such as access point steering, client steering, band steering, airtime fairness and beamforming, which the adapters of the Magic 2 WiFi next series also offer. Nothing changes in the powerline technology either and Devolo continues to rely on the fastest technology currently available, G.hn with up to 2,400 Mbit/s over the power cables of the apartment. In addition, the WLAN adapters in the new series continue to offer two gigabit LAN interfaces to connect end devices without WLAN via the mains and powerline.

Devolo specifies the power consumption of the new adapter with a maximum of 12.4 watts, typically 8.2 watts and 2.5 watts in stand-by.

VDSL performer for best performance

Magic 2 WiFi 6 also offers the Devolo VDSL Performer, which selects the best settings itself to prevent interference between a VDSL connection and the powerline home network (PLC). It is no secret that Powerline and VDSL do not always harmonize due to signal crosstalk. So far, users could choose a VDSL profile themselves in the adapter settings.

Coming soon in stores

The new Devolo Magic 2 WiFi 6 is available as a single adapter, in a starter kit with a LAN adapter and a WLAN adapter and as a multiroom kit with two WLAN adapters and a LAN adapter. The recommended retail price of an adapter is 179.90 euros *, the starter kit at 239.90 euros * and the multiroom kit costs 399.90 euros *. No delivery problems for the time being

According to Devolo, delivery problems do not want to be affected by delivery problems, at least for the coming Christmas business, because they are early I have secured sufficient quantities of the chips required for the adapter.
