Download macOS Monterey: Share Your Experiences Here
Apple has spent all summer and much of the fall testing macOS Monterey. It must be good then, right? Unfortunately, Monterey is launching tonight in a stripped-down version: some interesting features are still missing and will only be rolled out later. The good news is that installing macOS Monterey is finally possible for anyone with a suitable Mac. About 19:00the update is ready for you. Don't see the update yet? There's no point in reporting that you haven't seen the update yet. Apple will release the update at around 7:00 PM, but it often happens that it's a few minutes later. That's no reason to panic; Apple has not forgotten you, but the rollout to millions of devices is simply a gigantic operation. It is often better to wait a while.
Do you see macOS Big Sur 11.6.1 first? It is not necessary to install it. By refreshing the Software Update screen (with Command + R) you can still get and download macOS Monterey for your Mac.

macOS Monterey is a relatively minor update to the Mac, after Apple unveiled a rigorous redesign (which was well-received) in Big Sur last year at Big Sur. This year, only Safari has been given a different look, which has largely been rolled back. Furthermore, you will mainly find improvements in the field of communication and remote working, for example in FaceTime and iMessage.
Almost all owners of a recent Mac can update, with Apple going back as far as eight years. But at the same time, certain new functions can only be used by people who have an M1 Mac. This is one of the negatives we point out in our macOS Monterey review.
