Weekly review and outlook: Shortly before Alder Lake, Kia, Google, Nvidia and Apple score

GeForce Now now with 1440p and 120 FPS

In the reports of last week, however, Nvidia's cloud gaming service GeForce Now landed in first place, which six years after its introduction with the new “RTX 3080” performance level made a big leap. Instead of 1080p with 60 FPS, the new servers called “GeForce Now SuperPOD” offer games in 1440p with 120 FPS – on Shield even in 4K with 60 FPS and HDR. “RTX 3080” costs EUR 99.99 for half a year of use and is therefore around twice as expensive as the previous priority subscription. It is also priority subscribers who initially receive access to the new offer. With the new plan, the duration of a session also increases from 6 to a maximum of 8 hours. There is no RTX 3080 in the Nvidia servers; instead, each subscriber receives an “Ampere GPU of the server class”, which is supposed to deliver a “gaming experience comparable to an RTX 3080 on the desktop”. The GPU uses 24 GB GDDR6X for each player, which the RTX 3080 cannot offer in the desktop with 10 GB (3080) or 12 GB (3080 Ti). Only the GeForce RTX 3090 offers 24 GB.

New MacBook Pro 14 and 16 with MagSafe and more connections

The introduction of the new MacBook Pro 14 and 16 represents Apple's departure from the notebook concept of the last few years. The MagSafe magnetic charging connector, which is often reclaimed by users, is coming back, which has not only met with positive reactions, since some USB-C as Prefer standard, as this connection can also be used for peripherals outside of charging, while MagSafe is only used for charging. For the MacBook Pro with 16.2 inches, Apple names twice the CPU performance with the M1 Pro and M1 Max compared to the last installed Intel Core i9.
