Stellantis, agreement with Samsung SDI to produce batteries in North America

After the rumors, & egrave; official confirmation arrived. The Stellantis Group and Samsung SDI have announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding for the creation of a joint venture which aims to produce cells and battery modules in North America. The joint venture will deal with; also to build a new plant whose activities they will start in 2025.

Stellantis has made it known that, initially, the new factory will be able to rely on a ability; annual of 23 GWh with the possibility; to subsequently reach an annual production of 40 GWh. The announcement is certainly important and shows how Stellantis is continuing to work to put together all the pieces that will be needed to complete its electrification strategy.

To launch more and more on the market; electrified models, an adequate supply of batteries is needed.

However, Stellantis has made it known that further details on this issue and the project will be shared later. The Group expects to invest over 30 billion euros by 2025 in electrification and software development.

According to past reports, the company expects to secure over 130 GWh of capacity; of cell production by 2025 and over 260 GWh (90 GWh in America and 170 GWh in Europe) by 2030 through its factories. In Europe, the Group will be able to count on the ACC joint venture created by PSA (now Stellantis) and Total. One of the battery factories will be; built also in Italy, in Termoli .
