Law & Justice. The media and liberals accuse the right-wing government in Poland of undermining democracy and the “rule of law”. But in fact, Poland has a much stronger protection of the rule of law than Sweden has. This is what Carl Fredrik Bergström, professor of European law at Uppsala University, says to Swedish Radio.

– If Sweden were to have a government that has a political majority in the Riksdag to get its laws anyway. Then it would not take six years as in Poland but in a few weeks or months, says Carl Fredrik Bergström Uppsala University.

He states that Poland has a modern and fine constitution that provides strong protection for democracy and the rule of law. . There is a constitutional court that will ensure that the constitution is followed.

In Sweden, the constitution is worse and we have no constitutional court at all that maintains it, according to Carl Fredrik Bergström. Instead, it is the politicians in the Riksdag who fulfill that function.

Bergström believes that a constitutional inquiry should look at whether Sweden should strengthen the protection of the rule of law and the independence of the courts.
