Lotus had anticipated in September some details of the new platform on which its future electric sports car would be born , known, for the moment, as Type 135 . Model that will debut in 2026. As we know, the English brand will punter & agrave; on the electric and the new Lotus Emira & egrave; the latest sports car equipped with an internal combustion engine. Now, thanks to a report from Autocar & egrave; possible to discover some further details of the new battery-powered sports car.

SAR? A REAL LOTUS

The definitive name of this model is not yet known. As we know, pogger & agrave; on a new platform designed expressly for electric cars called E-Sports which features a much larger rear subframe; lighter than that found on the Emira, specially developed to compensate for the additional weight due to electrification, to ensure that this car is always a true Lotus from a dynamic point of view.

According to the report, the Type 135 is to be seen as the electric successor of the Elise . The platform allows to host single or double engine powertrains with powers between 350 kW and 650 kW . This means that the heir of the Elise will be able to count on a much higher power than that of the endothermic model. Although the platform allows the presence of four-wheel drive, Lotus plans are to offer, at the moment, only rear-wheel drive. Is not serious; excluded, however, that this possibility may arrive in the future.

Taking advantage of the compactness of the electric powertrains, Lotus looks like it will work; a lot on aerodynamics to make it particularly efficient. The most important thing; interesting & egrave; that the brand will look for to keep the price of the sports car competitive (by brand standards) by exploiting the synergies of the Geely Group . It will not succeed; to offer the sports car at a cost equal to that of the Elise but will aim for; at a higher price; in line with the high-end of the Exige.

RANGE OF MORE THAN 700 KM

However, the real priority; of the English brand & egrave; to propose a model that is a real Lotus. The central battery pack solution should make it possible to replicate the dynamic sensations of a sports car. A car that, however, will be; always usable every day, like the Elise. Thanks to the 66.4 kWh battery will be capable of offering a range of approximately 300 miles (482 km). With the 99.6 kWh battery, however, the distance could reach about 450 miles (724 km).

The platform will have; support for 800 V architecture . This will allow & agrave; to recharge in direct current at very high power. Over time, more will be built on the new E-Sports platform; models. Since it is; It is possible to design 4-seater cars, you can & ograve; to think that in the future the electric successor of the Evora can also be built.

In any case, the Type 135 has absolute priority; for Lotus. If more sports models arrive, they will certainly debut after 2026. This platform, however, will be & agrave; used also by Alpine for the electric successor of the A110. At the moment, however, it is not; unclear when it could debut.
