Africa receives Nobel Prize for writing books on refugees and racism

Cultural news. The Nobel Prize in Literature in 2021 is awarded to novelist and African Abdulrazak Gurnah. The Swedish Academy announces this today.

Abdulrazak Gurnah receives the award “for having uncompromisingly and with great compassion shed light on the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gap between cultures and continents”, writes the Academy.

Gurnah was born in Zanzibar and active in England.
