In the weekly App Missed section you can read which apps from the past week are worth checking out. We always discuss about five apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac. These could be apps that you may not have known about or that are useful or just fun to try. And that can also be veterans who have received a major update and therefore receive some extra attention.

Discussed earlier this week on iCulture:

  • These apps have already been adapted for iOS 15 and iPadOS 15
  • You can now withdraw money with your iPhone at Geldmaat

iCulture App of the Week: Flighty Do you often travel by plane or do you like to keep an eye on other people's flights? One of the best apps to do that is Flighty. Where Flightradar24 focuses a lot on enthusiasts and spotters, Flighty is more intended for private travel. With the update to iOS 15, Flighty also gets some useful new features. For example, the app supports time-sensitive notifications. Even if you have enabled Do Not Disturb, you will still receive notifications if your flight is delayed.

Flighty 2.0 also brings improvements to device tracking. Previously you could only see planes in your own environment. Now you can view all flights with the also new globe. They are now also easy to find on the ground. Finally, we would like to mention the new function to view in the air which aircraft are in your area with a maximum of 100 kilometers. You can see how many flights are currently following the same route.

LumaFusion

Attention Film Editors! Popular video editor LumaFusion is on the move and now also supports ProRes video on the iPad and iPhone. You can import, edit and export such content on iPads with USB-C. Do you have an iPhone 13 Pro? Then you can also shoot ProRes images on this in the built-in Camera app. In addition to this addition, the update also provides quick fixes for issues in iOS 15, so you can use the app without any issues.

Yoink

The iPhone has been supporting Drag & Drop. This feature allows you to drag and drop files from location. However, it's not quite as advanced as it is on the Mac. Yoink changes that somewhat. The app describes itself as the bookshelf for everything you can copy, share and download. The app has its own keyboard with a shortcut to your own bookshelf. You can quickly drag a photo into a chat from here, for example. In the new iOS 15 update, the Picture in Picture mode also works for files other than videos. Furthermore, the app works better with mice and keyboards on the iPad. There is also a version for Mac, but you have to purchase it separately.

Want to use your iPad as a desktop? Shift screen can help you with that. You are supposed to connect your iPad to an external monitor with this app. Shiftscreen has built in special support for this. You do need a keyboard and mouse. You can use this to surf the internet, edit documents, make video calls and do more things on your external monitor. On your iPad you do other things, just like a traditional desktop setup. It's an interesting step in the right direction, though of course it's still limited by iPadOS.

Keyword Search

Since iOS 15, Safari extensions also work on iPhone and iPad. One of the first extensions available is Keyword Search. This installation makes it easier to search all kinds of things on the internet. For example, to view the Wikipedia page on Steve Jobs, tap ‘W Steve Jobs’ in. You can solve calculations by ‘WA 1+2’ to tap. WolframAlpha does the math for you. You can configure how you want it to work.
