Hyundai's XCIENT Fuel Cells are racing: from the moment they were unveiled, last October during an event that took place in Lucerne (in which we had participated traveling several hundred kilometers with a hydrogen-powered Hyundai Nexo), the hydrogen trucks of the South Korean manufacturer have grinded 1.5 million kilometers , saving a thousand tons of CO2 .

To announce this, during the press events of the Monaco International Auto Show, & egrave; was Nabil Nachi , head of the sector department dedicated to the development of Fuel Cell commercial vehicles, who explained how the hydrogen truck project is in full swing , even in California:

Last year in Lucerne we presented the first ten vehicles and now we are already in Switzerland. arrived at 45 vehicles circulating on the roads. Demand is growing, and by the end of the year the Swiss roads will see 190 vehicles passing through, but we have also received requests from other countries; in 2022 we will deliver 30 hydrogen trucks to Germany and Holland will also arrive. along with other Northern European countries.

The XCIENT presented last October in Lucerne.

L & Hyundai's goal, announced just in recent weeks, & egrave; very ambitious: the company aims to become carbon neutral by 2045 focusing on mobility; clean, new generation platforms and green energy; to achieve these results starting from 2035 it intends to offer only electric vehicles or fuel cells in Europe, and in 2040 it will cease; gradually the sale of all the means that use fossil fuels in the main markets, supporting the transition towards the new mobility.

To drive the spread of hydrogen vehicles , in the vision of Nachi, will necessarily be commercial vehicles . It is a question of numbers and costs to be related to availability; infrastructure:

The turning point will take place; thanks to commercial vehicles, and the car market will follow; wheel. At the moment the problem is; the infrastructure, because refueling stations are needed: to amortize costs, a station must be able to count on at least 15 trucks, or alternatively about seventy cars; that's why & eacute; the transition will be; driven by commercial vehicles.

So, a vision that starts from commercial vehicles and then spreads to the most ; various, even outside the confines of the automotive : there is talk of hydrogen trains, hydrogen ships and ferries, even hydrogen air taxis. It is also a vision that some governments already have; started investing, starting from the United Kingdom that will spend & agrave; 4 billion pounds by 2030 for the development of solutions based on this technology.

The basis on which to work remains the relationship with companies & agrave; who deal with infrastructure, a little bit how & egrave; occurred in Germany where Hyundai & egrave; became a shareholder of H2 Mobility. A perspective that, seen from the beautiful country, seems decidedly futuristic, considering that the only hydrogen service station is in Bolzano . Still, the possibilities of development and positive effects on the economy, concluded Nachi:

If the government decides to invest in green energy production, especially in the areas that most lend themselves like Southern Italy, many possibilities would arise, starting from that of producing hydrogen and selling it in Northern Europe, where it is estimated that production will cover; only 40% of the requirement.
