Audi is continuing to develop its electric RS Q e-tron prototype with which it will try to win the Dakar 2022. The German brand makes it known that after the tests in Germany and Spain, the Audi Sport team is & egrave; moved to Morocco where the prototype was able to face the desert and sand dunes for the first time. Also in this case all three official crews participated and will face the most important rally raid; challenging in the world.

EXTREME ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

We expect cooler temperatures; low to the Dakar but we still wanted to take the car to the limit. Components such as MGUs are not designed for constant use above 40 ° C and the same is true for the drivetrain and powertrains. We have gone beyond our comfort zone and the information gathered will be crucial for the future.

Despite the particularly difficult conditions, the battery did not have any problems in operation. The high temperatures were perfect for verifying the thermal management of the accumulator . In parallel with the tests, Audi Sport started the assembly, at the Audi Motorsport Competence Center in Neuburg an der Donau, of the first Audi RS Q e-tron, chassis 104, destined to start the Dakar.

Audi RS Q e-tron, please note, & egrave; equipped with three electric engines derived from the Audi e-tron FE07 Formula E single-seater: two MGUs (Motor Generator Units), one at each axle, take care of traction, while a third unit & agrave; acts as a generator to help recharge the high-voltage battery, especially when braking.

The prototype also has a range extender that allows you to power the battery while driving. This is a four-cylinder TFSI & ndash; gasoline direct injection turbo & ndash; derived from the DTM, the German Touring Championship. All the experience accumulated during these tests will be used to refine the models that will then be brought to the race.
