To make passenger transport more efficient; sustainable, within cities Vienna and Graz will be used more and more; electric taxis . However, the use of these means can be a problem if they have to stop their service in order to reload. To solve this problem, within these two cities Austrian sar & agrave; carried out the interesting project & quot; eTaxi Austria & quot; which expects that over the next 2 years, 10 taxi stands and 66 vehicles will be equipped with Easelink's Matrix Charging technology that simplifies energy supplies. Technology that is recently shown at the Munich Motor Show 2021.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Compared to the inductive solutions for charging tested in other European countries always for the same purpose, this system includes a connector that can be made to come out through a button from the underbody of the car and that will go; to connect with a plate positioned on the road surface, to start charging. The whole process is automated. Therefore, taxi drivers will not have to get out of the car to manage the energy supply.

According to what is been communicated, the predisposed vehicles will be able to recharge in alternating current up to 11 kW . Subsequently, this technology will allow; to supply energy up to 22 kW in alternating current, up to 50 kW in direct current at 400 V and up to 100 kW in direct current at 800 V.

As an independent technology from an automobile manufacturer, Matrix Charging can & ograve; already be retrofitted in most electric vehicles available on the market today. The charging pads installed in the car park are robust and maintenance-free and can be installed in both public spaces and private garages.

From 2025 , only zero emission taxis will be allowed in Austria. This project that will last until 2024, will serve; to prepare adequate infrastructure for these cars. On paper, the advantages of this solution are different. Electric taxis will no longer have; the need of having to go to the columns, wasting time, since the refueling will be able to take place every time they park on the spaces dedicated to them. Plus, the charging pads can be integrated easily almost anywhere.

In addition to the retrofit kit, Easelink says it is currently working “ with leading automobile manufacturers and suppliers on a 'serial application of Matrix Charging technology'. In other words, this charging solution may in the future; already be present as standard on some specific models. The prices of the kit, for the moment, have not yet been revealed.

According to Easelink, they are already; ongoing testing of its technology with car manufacturers and suppliers, infrastructure providers and fleet managers as part of cooperation projects. For example, from summer 2020, the system is already been used by a company of electric car sharing in Graz. Easelink is mainly aimed at fleets. The taxi industry is the ideal because the charging system avoids service interruptions to go to the charging station.

The eTaxi Austria project is; also funded by the Austrian Climate and Energy Fund under the Mobility Implementation Program with zero emissions.
