Domestic. Gävle and Växjö have received hundreds of electric scooters deployed by the Norwegian company Ryde – against the wishes of the municipalities. But the company does not think they need a permit, reports Aftonbladet.

“Electric scooters are defined as bicycles and are therefore not a business subject to a permit. Placement of electric scooters is to be counted as bicycle parking. Payment and entering into a contract is carried out via an app”, writes one of Ryde's founders, Johan Olofsson, in an email to Aftonbladet when he will explain his view on the whole thing.

The company must have sent two emails to Gävle municipality to inform about the plans but did not receive a response. Also in Växjö, the company has emailed the municipality and “announced” about its intended launch.

In Växjö, the municipality will now contact Ryde and check whether the establishment took place on municipal or private land.

– About these are on private land we can do nothing. But if they pose a traffic hazard, we can seize them. We are not on the lazy side and really want to emphasize that this is not something that the municipality has agreed to, says Sofia Stynsberg (M), Technical Committee Växjö, to Aftonbladet.
