Game bundles at AMD & Nvidia: Game codes only in one case when purchasing graphics cards

Both AMD and Nvidia are once again offering free game codes these days when purchasing qualified products from qualified retailers. Contrary to tradition, the game bundles are currently only available when buying desktop PCs and notebooks with AMD Radeon or GeForce RTX – there is only one exception.

AMD has Far Cry 6 and Resident Evil Village

AMD has been adding the games Far Cry 6 (to be released on October 7th) and Resident Evil: Village (test) as well as a T-shirt and baseball cap for qualified products at qualified retailers since September 9th. So far, however, this did not apply to the purchase of a current AMD Radeon RX 6000, but only in combination with a Ryzen 5000 (-X, not -G) or selected Ryzen 3000 (-X, not -G) in a complete system or notebook. Yesterday, however, AMD adjusted the action.

The Radeon RX 6900 XT and only the Radeon RX 6900 XT also qualify separately for the bundle. In keeping with this, some retailers are currently offering the graphics card at prices that are barely above the price of the Radeon RX 6800 XT. The retailer Mindfactory, which recently worked closely with AMD, currently sells various graphics cards of this series for around 1,400 euros * – the price comparison lists the Radeon RX 6800 XT for at least 1,200 euros on Friday afternoon.

The fact that the most expensive graphics card from AMD can currently be bought from stock for the lowest surcharge and at the same time only two games are available for free there without further conditions will make very few gamers looking for a new gaming graphics card happy. Especially since the surcharge compared to the official RRP of 999 euros is still 500 euros.

AMD's promotion runs until December 31, 2021, or while stocks last. Codes must be redeemed by January 29, 2022.

Nvidia currently has Battlefield 2042

Nvidia also currently has one at selected retailers Game code with the purchase of a qualified GeForce RTX system: Battlefield 2042, which was postponed to November this week.

At Nvidia, too, contrary to tradition, the offer does not apply to the purchase of individual graphics cards, but to qualified desktop PCs and notebooks with GeForce RTX 3090, 3080 Ti, 3080, 3070 Ti or 3070. GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and 3060 as well as those only in notebooks available GeForce RTX 3050 are not included in the Battlefield 2042 RTX Bundle.

Nvidia's current news Bundle started at the end of August and will run until October 4, 2021. The codes must be redeemed by January 4, 2022.

Just don't annoy the player

Both bundles must have been planned by the manufacturers for a long time. You will encounter a market environment that has not made gamers happy to buy a new graphics card for almost a year: Excessive prices, few goods – and in some cases orders that are still at the RRP but have not yet been fulfilled by the retailer because later buyers have paid higher prices.

Adding games to these overpriced, barely available offers does not make the situation any better, both parties will have thought. Complete systems are also more expensive these days than they were two years ago, but the surcharges are lower because the system integrators use their own name for these systems and have traditionally taken into account more margins. Comments on this approach are welcome in the discussion about the report.
