Battlefield 2042 will be completed around a month later than planned due to the ongoing pandemic. The developers name November 19th as the new release date. What the delay means for the open beta is due to be announced later this month. The test phase should actually start in September.

The developers refer to “unforeseen challenges” caused by the pandemic. Due to the size and scope of Battlefield 2042, the studio was hoping to be able to work together again in the office buildings before it was released. However, this was not possible. At the same time, EA assures investors that the postponement will have no impact on expected sales for the fiscal year ending March 2022.

Battlefield V has already suffered the same fate, which was also pushed back shortly before the originally planned date. With Battlefield 2042, EA has a little more at stake. The shooter should lay the foundation for a live service future, similar to what Ubisoft is planning with the Infinity project for Assassin's Creed. The Battlefield approach revolves around the new portal mode, which can be used to create your own game modes based on various Battlefield games.
