After the largest Dutch banks already received Apple Pay a few years ago, this year it is the turn of the smaller parties. Earlier this year, Knab already started with Apple Pay and soon the brands of De Volksbank will also offer Apple Pay. Today Van Lanschot announced that it will also support Apple Pay.

Van Lanschot receives Apple Pay

Van Lanschot focuses primarily on high net-worth individuals and entrepreneurs. The announcement for support for Apple Pay comes as a bit of a surprise, because there has been no indication that the bank was working on this recently. Good news if you are a customer of the bank. It is not yet known when the bank will start with it. In the announcement, the bank talks about ‘soon’.

At the time of writing, the bank's app does not yet support Apple's Wallet app. This is a condition for offering Apple Pay, because the virtual debit card is placed on the iPhone via the link with Wallet. We asked Van Lanschot which customers could start using Apple Pay and which debit cards would be supported (debit cards and/or credit cards). Roel Stawski, Product Owner Payments at Van Lanschot, says the following to iCulture:

We want to offer Apple Pay to all customers with a Van Lanschot Wereldpas, business and private. We will not support credit cards.

With the forthcoming addition of Van Lanschot and the brands of de Volksbank, almost all banks are participating. The one left behind is Triodos. On its website, the bank says that they 'don't offer that option yet'. The bank also states on Twitter that it is not yet known whether it will come.
