Although Apple has been offering the 4G Apple Watch since 2017, the Netherlands has been empty-handed ever since. The providers do not offer 4G Apple Watch in the Netherlands, because the eSIM was not supported for a long time. In the meantime, we have seen countries around us get the 4G Apple Watch: since October last year, Belgium has already the Apple Watch 4G. But now the word is finally out, because after the September 2021 event it has become clear that the Netherlands will also receive the 4G Apple Watch.

Release Apple Watch 4G in the Netherlands is near

As of the just announced Apple Watch Series 7, Apple is also bringing the 4G version to the Netherlands. Apple has published a special page about the Apple Watch Series 7. This page is also available in the Netherlands. What is immediately noticeable is that the Digital Crown has a red ring in the images. The word Series 7 is also written in red letters. In both cases, Apple only does this if the 4G version is available in that country. Moreover, Apple explains on this page, also in Dutch, that you can use the Apple Watch to make calls if you are not within range of your iPhone. This makes it almost certain that the 4G Apple Watch will come to the Netherlands. We've already asked Apple for a response, but haven't received a response yet.

KPN is on board

KPN tells RTL Nieuws that the provider will support the 4G Apple Watch. Earlier, the provider indicated to iCulture that they want to support the 4G Apple Watch. Now the provider says that they will indeed offer the 4G Apple Watch. When exactly that will happen is not yet certain. This may be offered with the arrival of the Apple Watch Series 7, but we don't know when it will be available for that model either. Apple itself speaks of a release later this fall.

It is not yet known how much extra costs KPN will charge for the use of the 4G connection on the Apple Watch. In other countries it is about ’5 to €10 extra per month, but in Belgiumë it is included in your normal bundle with Telenet. In addition, it is often linked to the subscription that is on your iPhone. It is not yet known whether other providers will definitely participate. We have inquired about this with the providers. T-Mobile tells RTL that it will not support the 4G Apple Watch in the near future.

In a response to iCulture, T-Mobile says the following:

We are not making any statements about this at the moment. We do not carry the Watch cellular because it has not yet been introduced in the Netherlands.

Vodafone has confirmed to iCulture that the situation at the provider regarding the 4G Apple Watch has not changed. . Vodafone's response is as follows:

The status of this topic is unchanged. For the time being, Vodafone will not offer eSIM on the Apple Watch. Of course we follow developments in the market and look at the wishes of the customer.

Also good news for current owners of 4G model
Have you already had a 4G in recent years? -model from, for example, Germany or France? Then there is also good news. The previous 4G models of the Apple Watch are also suitable for use with the Dutch providers. So you don't necessarily have to buy a new model if you already have a 4G version and don't plan to buy a new Apple Watch.

As soon as there is more information about the 4G Apple Watch in the Netherlands, we will update this article.
