Earlier this summer, it was revealed that Apple was behind the scenes developing iOS 14.8. But in the weeks that followed it became quiet. There was no beta, while new iOS 15 betas did appear at a rapid pace. Now is the time when iOS 14.8 is a reality: the update is now available for everyone to download, together with iPadOS 14.8.

iOS 14.8 available

It is for the first that Apple has released a .8 update. The record was previously held by iOS 13, for which iOS 13.7 appeared last September. But now Apple is going over that with iOS 14.8. While you shouldn't expect major visible new features, Apple may have hidden something new in the update.

After the announcement of iOS 15, Apple already announced that updating to iOS 15 was not mandatory and that users can continue to receive security updates in iOS 14. It is quite possible that Apple is laying the foundation for this in iOS 14.8, so that thanks to this version, users to install security updates.

Apple says in the update description that this update provides important security updates and is recommended for all users. The support document shows that a security issue with WebKit and and CoreGraphics has been resolved. Both issues would have been exploited in the wild.
