The chip crisis is hitting Toyota too hard. After the announcement in August in which the manufacturer announced that it was forced to cut its September production by 360,000 cars, the carmaker has now revised it. production target for the fiscal year which ends March 31, 2022. If previously the manufacturer estimated to produce 9.3 million cars, now, the Japanese brand plans to build 9 million.

For the moment the operating profit estimates have not been revised thanks to an expense control policy. The goal is always equal to 2.5 trillion yen (just over 19 billion euros). It is clear, however, that if the supply problems worsen, the economic estimates could also be revised.

To impact on the estimates, the new production cut announced for the month of October. . The manufacturer will produce; 330,000 fewer cars. The cut will be; of 180 thousand units in its overseas factories and 150,000 in Japanese factories. And it seems that September will go; worse than expected as in addition to the 360,000 fewer cars expected, a further 70,000 fewer cars will be built. In short, a situation certainly not positive although the manufacturer aims to recover part of the production lost before the end of the year.

These announcements are a sign that no car manufacturer can. claim to be immune from the semiconductor supply crisis. Until now, Toyota had managed to have fewer problems than other brands as it understood after the 2011 earthquake and the Fukushima nuclear disaster, the importance of having warehouses adequately stocked than necessary. The production numbers concern only Toyota and Lexus and not Daihatsu or Hino.

According to Kazunari Kumakura , executive of Toyota, the supply problems concern the semiconductor factories of Vietnam and the Malaysia whose activities go in fits and starts due to constant outbreaks of coronavirus outbreaks. However, demand for cars remains high and if supply problems are resolved, Toyota could recover lost production. The situation is, however, very fluid and is not; today it is possible to make any certain predictions for the next few months.
