Toyota has decided to stop its e-Palette , the self-driving vehicle autonomous presented at CES 2018 and used inside the Tokyo Olympic Village . These are vehicles designed to offer some transport services during the Olympics and Paralympics currently in progress. This choice is; it was done after a vehicle had an accident with a visually impaired athlete which fortunately did not have serious consequences.
THE ACCIDENT
According to Reuters, the Toyota e-Palette had stopped at a T-junction and was about to turn under the manual control of the operator, when he hit a Paralympic athlete at a speed; very low (1-2 km/h). The sportsman & egrave; was immediately rescued and & egrave; was taken to a nearby medical center for treatment. Fortunately & egrave; was able to walk back to his residence.
Toyota has therefore decided to discontinue the use of its e-Palette and has stated that it will cooperate; with the local police to identify the causes of the accident. In any case, the manufacturer has also decided to launch an internal investigation.
