According to Nvidia's CMP-HX series based on a so-called “Crypto Mining Processor”, AMD Navi 21 is also to be used as a dedicated mining GPU for mining the cryptocurrency Ether from the decentralized network Ethereum ( ETH) can be used. AMD is expected to follow Nvidia with their CMP 30HX, 40HX, 50HX and 90HX.

Dedicated mining GPUs from AMD with Navi 21

As the Twitter user @I_Leak_VN reports, AMD and its board partners are also working on dedicated mining graphics cards and accelerators, which are to be based on AMD Navi 21. The first recordings of such an alleged mining GPU from XFX show two 8-pin PCIe connectors and, depending on the area of application, dispense with any image outputs.

The positive price developments, Ethereum rose in the last few weeks from under 1,800 US dollars to a unit price of over 3,200 US dollars (+ 77 percent), could have strengthened AMD in its efforts to also offer dedicated mining accelerators.

As early as March, the first rumors were circulating that the manufacturer would want to take advantage of the mining boom that is currently flaring up again and is working on its first own mining accelerators based on Navi 12 without graphics connections. The rumors speak exactly the same language as with Nvidia, whose mining graphics cards also lack all graphics outputs.

In the current case, the back of the GPU package speaks in favor of a “large” solution based on AMD Navi 21, which could compete with the Nvidia 30HX, 40HX, 50HX and 90HX.

Nvidia had expected three times the sales of CMP hardware, but this fell short of expectations. In the end, CMP products were responsible for around US $ 266 million in sales, although the manufacturer originally expected US $ 400 million here.
