Sony has revised the PlayStation 5 for the first time, as shown by a new variant that first appeared in Australia. On the one hand, you no longer need a screwdriver to fasten the screw of the stand, on the other hand, the revised version of the PlayStation 5 has lost a lot of weight.

The revised version bears the model number CFI-1102A or CFI-1100B, while the model delivered so far bears the identification number CFI-1000 or CFI-1000B. The new screw for the stand features a wider, knurled head that can be gripped with your fingers to tighten or loosen the screw without a screwdriver. The stand itself has also been redesigned by Sony. For the installation of an M.2 SSD as an internal memory expansion, which is currently already possible as part of a beta phase and will soon be released for all users, a screwdriver is also required for the new model.

Almost 10 percent weight saved

In terms of weight, Sony has been able to save 300 grams through changes, although it is not clear at first what the enormous weight saving of almost 10 percent comes about. The new digital edition without a drive weighs 3.6 kg, while the first model weighs around 3.9 kg. The PS5 with drive, however, weighs 4.5 kg. The PlayStation 5 relies on a large internal power supply, a massive heat sink for the GPU and CPU and many bezels in the case. It is not yet known whether the new model has more economical processors, for example, which enable smaller heat sinks and a smaller power supply unit. Reports on the volume of the new variant are also still pending. However, nothing has changed in terms of the external dimensions or the appearance of the console. It should take some time before a PlayStation 5 Slim.

In the meantime, the new model has not only appeared in stores in Australia, but also in the USA. The Japanese operating instructions for the PlayStation 5 had previously indicated a new model.
