Domestic. EU countries other than Sweden now need to “take responsibility” for receiving third world immigrants. That is the message from Maria Malmer Stenergard, migration policy spokesperson for the Moderates.

In Wednesday's “Aktuellt” on SVT, Maria Malmer Stenergard participated together with Rasmus Ling, the Green Party's spokesperson on migration issues.

They discussed the situation in Afghanistan – and Rasmus Ling thought that Sweden should now receive more immigrants, among other things by increasing their refugee quota.

Malmer Stenergard (M) did not agree with this. Instead, she wants to place the “responsibility” on receiving third-world immigrants in other countries.

– Now is the time for other countries to step forward. Sweden has taken on an enormous responsibility. This type of catastrophe risks leading to migration flows as in 2015. Now we see the consequences of some countries taking a disproportionately large responsibility, as Sweden did then, said Maria Malmer Stenergard and continued:

– Now we come moderates work for other countries to step forward and take greater responsibility, while we have a responsibility to ensure that integration works here.

The M-politician's proposal is criticized by the Sweden Democrats' EU parliamentarian Charlie Weimers.

“Maria Stenergard is right that Sweden should not increase the refugee quota. But stop saying that 'some countries have taken a disproportionately large responsibility'. This implies that acceptance of continued mass migration to Europe is the morally correct position. It's not, “Charlie Weimers wrote on Twitter.
