Foreign embassies close in Kabul

Abroad. The Swedish embassy in Kabul is still open, but Denmark and Norway are closing their missions in the area. The outside world is now preparing for the Taliban to return to power and occupy the Afghan capital.

As of 5 August 2021, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs calls on all Swedes who are in Afghanistan to leave the country.

However, the Swedish embassy is still open.

Sweden's ambassador Torkel Stiernlöf and the staff at the embassy are said to be ready to keep the operation going for the time being.

The government in Kabul now controls far less than half the country, but vice president Amrulla Saleh tells Tolo News that they have decided to continue fighting and support the “national resistance” to the Taliban.
