It was in December 2019 that Verphy Kudi from Brighton in the south of England turned 18.

To celebrate, she first went to London and met her boyfriend. Two days later she went on to Elephant and Castle and went to a concert. That day she turned one and asked the disc jockey at the concert to shout that it was her birthday through the speaker system.

Another two days later, she traveled to Coventry where she attended another person's birthday party. Then she went home to Brighton after stopping in London again on the way home. She had then been away for almost six days, from 5 to 11 December 2019.

However, Verphy Kudi had not bothered to arrange a babysitter for her 20-month-old daughter Asiah. While the mother was out on her party tour, the daughter, who had been left completely unattended in Kudi's apartment, died, the BBC reports.

Verphy Kudi is now sentenced to nine years in prison by Lewes Crown Court in the south of England.

– Asiah was alone in the apartment for six days, almost two hours, and could not do anything to call for help. She was a helpless child and completely dependent on you, her mother, taking care of her, the judge said in the case when the verdict was announced, according to The Guardian.

– It is almost unbearable to think about her suffering during the last days of her life – a suffering she went through so that you as a carefree teenager could celebrate your and your friends' birthdays.

Because the judge considered that Verphy Kudi had not intentionally caused her daughter's death, she was convicted of causing another person's death and not murder.
