The clamshell smartphone Galaxy Z Flip 3 is also in its 3rd generation for the unpacked event. The biggest change here is also the more resistant structure including IPX8 protection against water. Samsung has enlarged the outer display so that it can be better used for widgets. The starting price drops to 1,049 euros.
While Samsung wants to pick up those interested parties with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 who want a smartphone that is regular in size and includes a small tablet Can convert stylus support, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is a largely “normal” smartphone that can be folded up and closed in a more compact, albeit twice as thick format.
The shell can now water off
The clamshell structure (mussel shell) measures 86.4 × 72.2 × 17.1 mm when closed and just under half as thick 166.0 × 72.2 × 6.9 mm with the same weight of 183 g. As with the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the housing and hinge, which is protected against water ingress according to IPX8, are new. With the current generation of folding smartphones, Samsung wants to ensure that buyers no longer have to compromise on the manufacturer's other series. A less sensitive aluminum alloy for the chassis and a more robust display film that should scratch less quickly and show signs of use should also contribute to this.

Larger display outside
The primary screen still measures 6.7 inches and works with practically the same resolution (see technical data) in 22: 9 format with an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz. The S Pen, which is compatible with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 for the first time, does not work on the Galaxy Z. Flip 3, so that the display ultimately has almost identical properties to its predecessor. The larger changes in the truest sense of the word have been made to the outer panel, which now measures 1.9 inches at 260 × 512 pixels and is therefore much better than viewfinder for the (still) two 12-megapixel cameras or widgets such as the weather and notifications and similar status information is suitable.

250 euros less with the same amount of memory
Aside from the directly visible external changes, there is now a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 from 5 nm production instead of the previously installed Snapdragon 865 Plus, which still has 8 GB of RAM, slumbering under the hood. However, Samsung has halved the non-expandable memory of the base model from 256 GB to 128 GB, even though the starting price is now 300 euros lower and the surcharge for 256 GB seems fair at just 50 euros. Samsung is effectively offering the Galaxy Z Flip 3 250 euros less than last year.
Areas such as 5G, NFC, connections and batteries are identical to the last generation. The latter comes back to 3,300 mAh and can be charged with a maximum of 25 watts, which Samsung has not increased for a long time. The Koreans are not taking part in the race for the fastest charging technologies, which is mainly run by Chinese manufacturers. However, the colors that are available in an extensive selection with Cream, Green, Lavender, Phantom Black, Gray (online), White (online), Pink (online) have been reissued. There are also unusual accessories such as special covers with which the Galaxy Z Flip 3 can be attached to the belt, hung around the neck or held steadily in the hand using a loop.
