The Galaxy Watch 4 (Classic) is the first smartwatch from Samsung that uses the new operating system from the merger of Wear OS and the formerly used own Tizen OS. For Samsung customers, this primarily means access to more Google services, including the Play Store. The watch gets more settings from the smartphone.
Samsung divides the new generation of smartwatches into two models and then again into different sizes, colors and LTE models. The Galaxy Watch 4 is the somewhat more compact model with smaller strap stops and case sizes of 40 and 44 mm as well as two buttons for operation – in addition to inputs via the round 1.2 and 1.4 inch OLED display. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is larger and again with a rotating bezel, with a case measuring 42 or 46 mm. Depending on this, the screen measures 1.2 or a little smaller 1.36 instead of 1.4 inches.
Another difference between the two models is the choice of material for the aluminum housing or stainless steel. However, this feature does not affect the durability of the case, because all four watches are water-resistant to 5 ATM and come with certifications for IP68 and MIL-STD-810G.
New Exynos W920 from 5 nm production
The heart of the new smartwatches is the recently introduced Exynos W920 from the company's own semiconductor division, which comes from modern 5 nm production and is therefore the first smartwatch processor with this feature on the market. Each of the clocks also offers 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. The connectivity depends on the selected model, but always includes Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 4 and NFC as well as the location services GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo. Optionally, LTE (with eSIM) for mobile data usage can be ordered for all sizes, which costs an additional 50 euros each. The batteries measure 247 mAh or 361 mAh depending on the case size, but should be good for around 40 hours of running time regardless of this. The watches are charged wirelessly via the back, which, according to Samsung, takes around 2 hours.

< p class = "p text-width">Google itself calls the new operating system from the cooperation with Samsung Wear OS 3, but Samsung calls it Wear OS powered by Samsung. On top of this, the manufacturer places its own user interface, which, like the smartphones, is called One UI Watch 3.0 here. For Tizen users, the operation is almost identical and therefore a consistent continuation of the previous structure, except that Google's services such as the Play Store, Google Assistant or Google Maps can now also be used. There is also a choice of payment services with Google Pay or Samsung Pay. Applications from various third-party providers such as Adidas Running, Calm, Strava and Spotify are also at home on the new watches. The operating system also takes over settings such as sleep mode, apps or the world clock from the Galaxy smartphone without having to set this again.
Composition of the body determine
In terms of fitness tracking, there is a new “BioActive sensor” on the back, which Samsung uses to determine three values based on just one chip. These include blood pressure, EKG and oxygen saturation. For the first time, the composition of the body can also be determined, i.e. the skeletal muscle mass, data on the basal metabolic rate as well as the body water and body fat percentages. According to Samsung, more than 2,400 data points are recorded within 15 seconds, which means that the composition of the body can be analyzed in just a few steps. When tracking in the resting phase, the recording of snoring noises and oxygen content are new.
