1Password has been a popular password app among Apple users for years. In addition to saving passwords and creating unique secure passwords, the app also allows you to set up two-step verification codes and store other important documents such as PINs and more. More than three years after the arrival of 1Password 7, version 8 will be released later this year, but for those who can't wait, there is early access. Anyone can sign up, but there are a few things to keep in mind.
1Password 8: Requires a paid 1Password account
One of the biggest changes is that 1Password 8 for Mac requires you to have a 1Password account. Your digital vault can no longer be synced with iCloud or Dropbox from that version. You therefore need a paid membership to use the new version. According to David Teare, one of the founders, sharing vaults and passwords via your own 1Password accounts is a lot easier. Speaking to Engadget, Teare says that's one of the reasons it no longer supports syncing through third-party services.
Users with a 1Password license get a discount on the paid 1Password accounts. You can then get a 50% discount on the first three years. A 1Password account costs $2.99 per month. If you plan to test version 8 before it's officially released, it's important that you first create a 1Password account (if you don't already have one) and add it to your current 1Password app.
< p>The refreshed design gives you the option to filter by category at the top. According to the makers, this makes it much easier to immediately find what you are looking for. The bar on the side therefore only contains your safes and stored data. The app also indicates more clearly which safes are privateé are and which are shared. The search function has also been improved with a new Quick Find option, where you get results with a drop-down menu as you type.
The Watchtower feature also offers more options. This feature monitors which passwords may be in data breaches and warns of simple or reused passwords. On the new overview page you can easily see how your safe is doing.
Other improvements in 1Password 8 for Mac include easier data updating, a new password generator, and easier attachment adding. Creating new accounts is also a bit easier thanks to an updated version of 1Password in the browser.
On this page you will find instructions on how to use 1Password 8 for Mac right now. The final version is expected later this year. The makers are also working on new versions for iPhone, iPad and Android.
