Rumor: 'Release completely renewed MacBook Air planned for mid-2022'

The release of the new high-end MacBook Pro 2021 is scheduled for next fall. But since January of this year, there has been talk of a new high-end MacBook Air with MagSafe. While it was already said that this model would arrive at the end of this fall at the earliest, the well-known Apple analyst is now certain: the release of the new MacBook Air will not be until 2022.

‘Release MacBook Air in mid-2022’

The new MacBook Air will be the biggest redesign of this model in recent years. As previously predicted, Apple opts for several new colors and would further resemble the upcoming high-end MacBook Pros in design. Renders of this new model in different colors have already surfaced, based on rumours.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the release of the new MacBook Air is now planned for mid-2022, presumably sometime in the spring or summer. A new generation of Apple Silicon chip is coming, but the question is what Apple will do with the current MacBook Air with M1. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, two scenarios are possible. Apple can stop production of the 2020 M1 model and give the successor the same price tag (starting at €1,129). A second scenario is that Apple keeps the M1 MacBook Air in its range, but gives it a price reduction. So you get two models with two different price levels.

Ming-Chi Kuo previously predicted that the MacBook Air will get a mini-LED display in 2022. That still seems to be the plan. Apple has been using mini-LED since this spring, in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2021. Advantages of this screen are better contrast and nicer colors. It's closer to OLED, but mini-LED has less burn-in.
